Scroll through the manufacturers list on this site and it reads like 77 independent companies. In practice, a chunk of that list collapses into a much smaller set of corporate parents, several of which have reshuffled their heat pump brands within the last 18 months. Below are the ownership links we could confirm from company announcements and filings, focused only on the parents and subsidiaries that are both represented in this database.
Carrier Global Corporation
Carrier owns Carrier and CIAT outright, and completed its acquisition of Viessmann’s Climate Solutions business, the heat pump and boiler side of the company, in January 2024 for around €12 billion. Carrier also holds the rights to sell Toshiba-branded heat pumps across Europe under a separate licensing arrangement with Toshiba Corporation, which otherwise remains independent. Riello was part of this group until Carrier sold it to Ariston Group in July 2026.
Ariston Group
Ariston and Riello are now siblings: Ariston Group completed its purchase of Riello’s heating and heat pump business from Carrier on 1 July 2026, for gross proceeds of around $440 million.
Vaillant Group
Vaillant and Glow-worm sit under the same German family-owned group. Glow-worm is part of Vaillant’s “Saunier Duval Brand Group” alongside Saunier Duval and Protherm, neither of which are stocked in this database.
Groupe Atlantic
Atlantic, Ideal Heating and Clade are all Groupe Atlantic brands, alongside Gledhill, Hamworthy and Keston, which aren’t in this database. Groupe Atlantic itself was recently majority-acquired by Paloma Rheem Holdings.
NIBE Group
Nibe, CTC and Rhoss are all NIBE Industrier AB brands: CTC came with the 2016–17 acquisition of Enertech Group, and Rhoss became a wholly-owned NIBE subsidiary in January 2019 after NIBE bought out the remaining stake from the Bellò family.
Bosch Home Comfort Group
This is the newest and largest cluster here. Bosch completed its purchase of Johnson Controls’ residential and light-commercial HVAC business, including the Johnson Controls–Hitachi joint venture, with the integration finishing in January 2026. Bosch, York and Hitachi (for residential and light-commercial units) now share one parent.
Johnson Controls
Johnson Controls kept its industrial refrigeration and heat pump business when it sold the residential side to Bosch, so Sabroe remains a Johnson Controls brand, just a smaller one than before.
Midea Group
Midea holds an 80% stake in Clivet, acquired in 2016; the Bellò family that founded Clivet retained the remaining 20%.
What this means if you're comparing quotes
None of this means sibling brands are identical products with different badges; Carrier, CIAT and Viessmann heat pumps, for instance, are built to different specifications and sold through different channels. But it's worth knowing when two quotes you're comparing ultimately report to the same boardroom, particularly for warranty terms, parts availability and who you're actually negotiating with if you push back on price.
